A 7-day refresher course on Gyalsung Human Wildlife conflict Management for Instructors is underway at the Ugyen Wangchuck Institute for Forestry Research and Training (UWIFORT), Lamai Goempa, Bumthang, Bhutan from April 7 – April 13, 2025. The training is conducted by Nature Conservation Division in collaboration with Bhutan Ecological Society and supported by the World Bank.
46 forestry officials involved with human conflict management in various national parks, wildlife sanctuaries and divisional forests offices are attending the training of trainers program.
The objectives of the trainings are to:
- Strengthen trainers’ knowledge and skills in HWCM
- Enhance competencies in training delivery and adult learning techniques
- Provide hands-on experience in mitigation measures and rapid response techniques
The training is divided into competency-based modules, including theoretical and practical sessions.
The topics covered includes; introduction to human-wildlife conflict management basics, status and types of conflict, impact of human wildlife conflict, ecological interactions, basic andragogy skills, identifying & understanding, causes & problem Species, various preventive & mitigation strategies, rapid response & conflict resolution.
The main objective of the training is to equip the skills of forestry department for Gyalsung Instructors- Community Security Skilling (CSS) and make them readily available when the services is called for.
