Bhutan holds abundant freshwater resources, yet many rural and urban communities experience shortages. BES develops practical, climate-resilient ways to conserve water and improve reliable access.
The Challenge
ABUNDANT WATER, UNEVEN ACCESS
Climate change is altering the availability and timing of water across the Himalayas. At the same time, settlement growth and changing demand place pressure on local systems, creating shortages even in a water-rich country.
BES works with government, local authorities, and communities to study how water is delivered and used, then pilot solutions that can be scaled where they are most needed.
How We Tackle It
CONSERVE WATER AND STRENGTHEN ACCESS
From mountain watersheds to downstream communities, BES combines ecological research, community knowledge, and suitable technology. The goal is durable water systems that protect biodiversity, reduce climate risk, and serve future generations.
