The Bhutan Ecological Society will be hosting its 5th Annual Research Symposium & Environmental Fair on 2–3 December 2018 at the Department of Youth and Sports Centre, in Thimphu. The event will gather national and international researchers, academicians, changemakers, students and practitioners at a single stage, featuring a wide range of events which includes prompt keynote presentations, oral talks, poster presentations and exhibitions. This forum could offer networking opportunities with experts, researchers, and up-and-coming leaders in the field of ecology, conservation, environment and energy besides a real opportunity to share your ecological and conservation research with national and international colleagues who are actively striving to safeguard the planet. Researchers at all career stages are encouraged to submit one or more abstracts for oral or poster presentation.

Abstracts will be peer-reviewed. Acceptance will be based on content, available space, and overall program balance. Oral and poster presentations and exhibition booths will take place on Sunday and Monday, December 2 and 3, 2018.

Posters and oral presentations for the research symposium may describe ongoing or completed work in any of the seven focus areas:

  • Sustainable Livelihoods (includes human-wildlife issues)
  • Waste Management
  • Energy Resources
  • Biodiversity Conservation (includes species-specific projects on wild flora and fauna)
  • Water Resources
  • Climate Change and Economics
  • Agriculture Science (includes domestic livestock and crops)

Exhibition booths may feature photos, information or displays on the work or programs related to conservation of Bhutan’s natural heritage and environment (e.g., school and community programs, environmentally friendly business ventures, research activities, arts, etc.)

The event will also feature the launch of lecture series called Bhutan Lecture on Innovation, Science & Society (BLISS), conferment the Jigme Singye Wangchuck Outstanding Environmental Stewardship Award (JSW-OESA) and the launch of the Journal of Bhutan Ecological Society, a peer-reviewed scientific journal.

The deadline for submitting abstracts, or for reserving a free exhibition booth, has been extended until 31st October 2018.  Submission e-forms are available here Abstract or poster_form  and Exhibition Booth_form
