BES signs MoU with Department of Forests and Park Services

Bhutan Ecological Society (BES) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Department of Forests and Park Services (DoFPS) under Ministry of Agriculture and Forests on 7^th May 2022 to undertake the Million+ Tree Initiative to restore degraded forest areas of Bhutan.  The Million+ Tree Initiative aims to address environmental and livelihood challenges by building Bhutan’s carbon stock, rehabilitating fallow land and, most importantly, increasing rural income through sale of fruits, nuts and timber.

Through the current partnership, BES will lead the plantation and maintenance of trees and DoFPS will provide technical assistance including monitoring and supervision of the Million+ Tree Initiative. The MoU was signed by the Executive Director of BES, and the Director of DoFPS.

The Million+ Tree Initiative is supported by Bhutan Foundation.
